Just after moving into my new digs I managed to drop my sash window onto the fingers of one hand. Being totally macho and heroic I didn’t see any need to get them checked since they all still seemed to work. Even though it took me a few minutes to get them out and even though they went a nasty shade of purple shortly afterwards. I go to hospital if I can’t stop the bleeding, bits are pointing in the wrong direction or there is projectile vomiting involved. I may also allow someone to assist me if I stop breathing.
Since this instance was covered by none of those clauses, life continued as normal.
But the middle finger of that hand has had a slightly tender spot ever since but nothing to write home about. However I did a little self diagnosis this afternoon and there is now a bump on that finger. And the bump is attached to the bone, not the flesh. I’ve followed this path before.
Twice I’ve heard loud cracking noises from my ankles (one from each) and been told that I have torn the ligaments. Go easy on it was the advice on each occasion. And twice I’ve done it for a second time, been to the hospital and heard the words “You’ve broken it again...” Obviously gotta try something else now that I’ve run out of ankles...
I’m hard I am.

Take care of that middle finger.
That's the one you use for flipping the bird.
My brush with stairs has left me with a little bump on my knee that won't go away. I'm thinking bone chip.
Ah, the bump is from where you drag your knuckles on the ground.
Sx
MJ: Still fully operational and regularly exercised against car drivers.
Jo: Maybe yo should think of something else?
Scarls: No, I have special gloves to prevent such occurrences.
Not having seen this bump but having a pretty good idea of the type of injury (been there, done that myself), I would hazard a guess that it is a callous on the bone. You probably bruised the bone quite nicely, even possibly cracked it, and the callous is part of the healing process.
Can you move it normally? Obviously it works to some degree if you can still flip off drivers. Is the bump in the middle of the bone of that part of your finger or at the joint?
If it is a callous, and the finger moves normally otherwise, you will not require amputation of any body parts. It should slowly disappear on its own over time (usually months) as the bone remodels and the callous is absorbed.
You'll survive, in other words.
And that is my professional nursing diagnosis.
What is it with men and this thing for living through the pain?? Although, technically I can't speak - I've certainly not bounded off to the doctor after every bump myself!!
i wish i hadn't read this post!
ewwww!
lordy i'm squeamish.

I'm proud of you for not going to the hospital. On behalf of all manly-men we salute your silent suffering and your decision to suck-it-up! We feel your pane.
